Meanwhile, it's Poppy Day. Poppies always strike me as an odd choice for soldiers' fundraising. Especially now. Britain's at war in Afghanistan, the heroin capital of the world. Someone should tell the disabled servicemen their poppies would sell for a lot more, if only they'd wait till later in the manufacturing process.

Trust us said the voices of Washington.

...The Bush Administration: Trust Us! We'll end gridlock in Washington. We will have surpluses as far as the eye can see. We'll find the weapons of mass destruction; we'll be welcome as liberators; the insurgency is in its last throes. We don't torture...And we can save Social Security by letting you invest your benefits in the market.

Trust them?
Its time for change.

Raybon Kan on the Olympics, from Sunday Star Times

THERE'S GOT to be a way for the Olympics to replace all conflict in the world. A lot of the sports have to do with war. The shot put, of course, which is what happens when poor countries buy cannonballs but can't afford the cannon. These countries are able to defend about 15-20 metres of their national border, as long as their missile defence system gets a bit of rest between throws.

Plus, there's boxing and wrestling and javelin and sabre and archery and shooting. For the cowards, there's running. For the slow cowards, there's walking. And for the refugees, there's ocean swimming.

Coming Second means you are the first loser

In life sometimes we console ourselves when we have acheived a lot but fail to reach our goal or come first. But never forget that fact that life is never grey, its always true or false. You win or you lose, conceded wins are nothing but a coin phrase for losers. In life its always all or nothing, second means you are a loser.

You should never settle for anything less than becoming the best because anything else means that you have under-achieved and failed.

Mr Herbst at SHC taught me a lot of things, but the things I will never forget is this quote and his story about Jesus
